Peacework has been published monthly since 1972, intended to serve as a source of dependable information to those who strive for peace and justice and are committed to furthering the nonviolent social change necessary to achieve them. Rooted in Quaker values and informed by AFSC experience and initiatives, Peacework offers a forum for organizers, fostering coalition-building and teaching the methods and strategies that work in the global and local community. Peacework seeks to serve as an incubator for social transformation, introducing a younger generation to a deeper analysis of problems and issues, reminding and re-inspiring long-term activists, encouraging the generations to listen to each other, and creating space for the voices of the disenfranchised.

Views expressed are those of the authors, not necessarily of the AFSC.

AFSC Relief Efforts in Asia

The American Friends Service Committee is accepting donations to help survivors in the areas affected by December's disaster.

As in all its relief efforts, AFSC will provide support for groups or communities that might not be served by larger aid responses; and offer pragmatic, immediate help that builds longer-term recovery so that communities can rebuild long after the media attention and compassionate responses for aid have diminished. To give on-line, visit www.afsc.org.

To give by phone, call 888/588-2372.

To give by mail, write "Asian Earthquake" in the memo line of your check, payable to American Friends Service Committee, 1501 Cherry St.,Philadelphia, PA 19102

Nonviolence International Office Destroyed in Aceh

Nonviolence International is sad to report that two members of our staff are still unaccounted for in Banda Aceh after the recent earthquake and tsunami. The "Peace Education Program" office, which had been operating in Aceh for five years, has been completely destroyed.

Donations to Nonviolence International's Aceh Earthquake/Tsunami Relief Fund will be distributed directly to Acehnese humanitarian aid agencies.

Make donations by check payable to Nonviolence International (memo "Aceh Relief Fund"), POB 39127, Friendship Sta., Washington DC 20016, or at www.nonviolenceinternational.net.
