As a followup to our successful "troops home now" statewide ballot initiative on November 7, 2006, the AFSC and the rest of the Statewide Campaign to Bring Our Troops Home Now have introduced an antiwar resolution into the Massachusetts state legislature.
Filed by state representative David Linsky and state senator Karen Spilka, the resolution states, "the General Court of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Hereby Calls upon the President and Congress of the United States to End the War in Iraq Immediately and Bring All United States Military Forces Home from Iraq." (This was the language that won 61% of the vote in the 36 state representative districts across the Commonwealth in which it appeared on the ballot.)
At present the resolution has 35 state representative co-sponsors (call Paul or see the Peacework website for a list) and six state senator co-sponsors. If your state senator has not yet signed on as a co-sponsor (only Wilkerson, Jehlen, Hedlund, Spilka, Augustus, and Barrios have so far) please urge them to do so. Find out who your MA state public officials are at www.wheredoivotema.com. Contact info for all the MA state legislators can be found at www.mass.gov/legis/memmenus.htm. Please report any feedback to Paul Shannon at AFSC-NERO, 617/497-5273.
